Firm Background:
Wayne Hogan, a Jacksonville native, has been with Terrell Hogan Yegelwel since 1977. He earned economics and law degrees from the Florida State University. He is past president of the Florida Justice Association, recipient of AAJ’s Lifetime Achievement, Harry M. Philo, and Distinguished Service Awards, and served three times on AAJ’s Executive Committee. A Florida and National Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer, former chair and current member of the Florida Bar Civil Procedure Rules Committee, and former member of the Florida Bar Code and Rules of Evidence Committee, and chaired the Middle District Conference of the Florida Federal Judicial Nominating Commission.
Hogan has obtained punitive damage verdicts in multiple trials against manufacturers of defective products, beginning with representing a World War II Navy veteran family in Florida’s first asbestos disease punitive damages verdict in 1981 and the precedent-setting appeal, "Johns-Manville Sales Corp. v. Janssens." In another key precedent, the Florida Supreme Court held a successor liable for punitive damages for the recklessness of its predecessors in "Celotex Corp. v. Pickett" in 1986.
Hogan and his partners have represented thousands of victims of asbestos exposure across Florida. Hogan joined other leading trial lawyers in products liability and RICO claims against cigarette companies. The State of Florida had provided medical care to Floridians afflicted with tobacco diseases, and the lawsuit achieved an historic settlement for Florida’s taxpayers and to protect Florida’s children from the scourge of tobacco. The settlement set the stage for the national tobacco settlement and significant changes in tobacco control laws, particularly protecting children, beginning with removing all billboard advertising and the retirement of Joe Camel and the Marlboro Man. Hogan represents public school districts for the recovery of costs for special education services due to prenatal opioid exposures and for costs due to students’ exposure to social media platforms.
