Areas of Practice: Car Accidents; Defective Products; Life-Altering Accidents and Wrongful Deaths; Medical Malpractice; Mesothelioma/Asbestos/Toxic Exposures; On-the-Job Accidents; Punitive Damages; Trucking Accidents and Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Firm Background: Wayne Hogan, a Jacksonville native, has been with Terrell Hogan Yegelwel, P.A. since 1977. He earned economics and law degrees from Florida State University. A Florida and National Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer, former chair of the Florida Bar Civil Procedure Rules Committee, and member of the Florida Bar Code and Rules of Evidence Committee, he practices the full range of personal injury and wrongful death law.
Hogan has continuously fought injustices that inflict death and injury and focuses, particularly, on bringing to account those who profit from defective, dangerous products. Best known is Hogan’s joining with other leading trial lawyers in product liability and RICO claims against cigarette companies. The State of Florida had provided medical care to Floridians afflicted with tobacco diseases, and the lawsuit achieved an historic settlement for Florida’s taxpayers and to protect Florida’s children from the scourge of tobacco. The settlement led to the national tobacco settlement and set the stage for significant changes in tobacco control laws, beginning with removing all billboard advertising and the retirement of Joe Camel and the Marlboro Man.
Hogan has obtained punitive damage verdicts in multiple trials against manufacturers of defective products, and represented the plaintiffs in Florida’s first asbestos disease punitive damages verdict, and the precedent-setting appeal, Johns-Manville Sales Corp. v. Janssens. In another, the Florida Supreme Court held a successor liable for punitive damages for the recklessness of its predecessor in Celotex Corp. v. Pickett. The firm has represented thousands of victims of asbestos exposure across Florida.
